Hi Roger,

I am researching the family of James Stewart II b:ABT 1736 – 1794 married to Elizabeth ?. I am specifically interested in their children as one daughter marries a John Straughn and has a child named Fielding. John Straughn died in Chatham Co., NC in 1785 and Fielding was later bound to his grandfather James Stewart on Aug 1791 Chatham Co., NC.

I beleive the children of James Stewart II and Elizabeth are (and there could be others):
1. Elizabeth?? Stewart born Abt. 1762 possibly married John Straughn b:?- d:1785.
2. Mary Ann Stewart married Benjamin Haygood
3. Thomas Stewart, named in father's will
4. Jephthah (Jeptha)Stewart, named in father's will
5. James Stewart (not of age yet father’s death in 1794, named in father's will.)

Fielding Straughn migrated to from NC to Conecuh Co., AL about 1818 and appears in 1820 Conecuh Co., AL Census. He died in 1867, Conecuh Co.,AL. I am tracking Fielding Straughn and the Stewart line to determine family ties to James Stewart Foshee(Foushee/Fooshee) of Chatham Co., NC and later Conecuh Co., AL. It appears James Stewart Foshee and Fielding knew each other (possibly cousins)and were appox. the same age. Both moved to AL at the same time and may have been related through the Stewart family.

Also James Stewart's brother Charles Stewart(b:abt 1730 -d:1782) married Elizabeth Ann Clements, and had several daughters including Happy A. Stewart (d: AUG 1824 in Pittsboro, Chatham Co., NC) who married Joseph Foushee. There is also another family connection to woman named Anne who married Elijah Foushee, son of the John Foushee of VA and later Chatham Co., NC but I have not determined who this Anne might be.

We have corresponded in the past. Most beleive that James Stewart Foshee (b: 1792 NC -d:1860/1866 AL) is not a son of Happy Stewart Foushee as he does not appear in either her or husband Joseph Foushes's will.(Unless of course James Stewart Foshee was disowned by the family.) However, I feel there are connections to the Stewart line via the Foshee's and Straughn's families that might offer significant clues. Any information you can share would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Trish
