Marriages - Hiram Foust children
Posted by: Linda Smith (ID *****9056) Date: December 07, 2004 at 10:06:29

These marriages are speculation taken from the Tn Marriage Index, 1851-1900, and only those who married in Lawrence County, and only those whose names and ages correspond closely to the children of Hiram Foust. However, not only are these names very common, but Hiram Foust's brother John George Foust, also lived in Lawrence Co, TN, and some similar names and ages could possibly be Hiram's neices and nephews. If anyone knows positively about these marriages, please verify for me.

SARAH A. FOUST - There are several possible Sarah's in the marriage index:

(1)-- S.A.E. FOUST - married M. F. Acres - 4 Jan 1855
I have read a posting that says S.A.E. is SARAH A.E. FOUST, daughter of JOHN GEORGE FOUST, who married MILLEDGE FRANKLIN ACRES or AKERS.

(2)-- SARAH FOUST - married JEFFERSON MILLER - 16 Sept 1858
(The earlier date listed, 14 Sept, is prob license).

(3)-SARAH A. FOUST - W.B. ROSSON (WILLIAM B.) - 8 July 1855
(The William B. is according to a ROSSON Family posting)

(4)-- SARAH ANN FOUST - WILLIAM B. ROPER - 8 Feb 1855

Also, SARAH A. FOUST, daughter of Hiram & Jane, was old enough to have married while they still lived in Alabama. Does anyone know for sure who she married?
-----------------------------------------------------------
MARY C. FOUST - T.F. WOOD (Thomas Franklin)- 24 Oct 1855
Middle initial "C" & Thomas's full name from posting here, if this is, indeed, Hiram's daughter Mary, who could also have married while they lived in Alabama.
-----------------------------------------------------------
NANCY FOUST - No one who fits with age & place. Nancy was listed in her father's household at age 33 in 1870, but was not there in 1880, which indicates she either married, moved away, or died. Does anyone know what happened to her?
-----------------------------------------------------------
MARTHA FOUST - There is a "MATTIE" in Lawrence Co, who married L.D. Nasbors, 22 Jan 1865; Martha is listed with her father in 1860, but not in 1870, which is a possible indication that she married between 1860 & 1870.
-----------------------------------------------------------
JOHN FOUST - John left home between 1860 & 1870. Both Hiram and John George Foust (brothers) have a son named John of about the same age. One of these Johns married an early aunt of mine, Minerva Jane Harper, on 6 Dec 1863. Also, there is a John N. Foust who married S.P. Holcomb on 1 Feb 1865. I would REALLY like someone to clear this up.
-----------------------------------------------------------
LUCINDA CANZODA FOUST - Her middle name could be "Canada" rather than Canzoda. You know how clearly they write on those censuses. There is a CANADA FOUST who married HENRY NEWTON on 10 Dec 1866, and Lucinda is gone from the father's household between 1860 & 1870.
-----------------------------------------------------------
HARRISON FOUST - SARAH GRIFFIN - 5 Jan 1869
Harrison was head of household with a month-old baby in 1870, so he could not be the "H.C.Foust" who married Sarah Thompson in 1871. Close, but no cigar.
-----------------------------------------------------------
WILLIAM J. FOUST - William left home between 1870 & 1880. There is a "W.FOUST" who married SARAH J. BASSHAM on 30 Dec 1873.
-----------------------------------------------------------
RICHARD HIRAM FOUST - R.H. FOUST m. M.A. WHITE -8 Apr 1880
Richard was listed in his father's household in 1880, but I did not write down the date of the census. Obviously, it was before April 8. There is a posting on this forum which says M.A. was Mary Ann White.

Any comments, suggestions, or - lots better - someone who actually KNOWS, please feel free to respond.

Linda Smith
