I thought I had sent the same message to this forum and to your home, but evidently I got the home E-Mail wrong. My E-Mail is I would like to communicate at some length (have quite a lot on our ancestors as I have been a genealogist for over 50 years) and I very interested in your gr-gr-grandfather John's descendants--even if you know very little about him personally. Perhaps some of your cousins know more and you can put me in touch with them? Where do you live? I doubt it is still Illinois or you would be more aware of John's history. Most of my ancestors had lived for several generations in the same county in which I was born, and I almost learned about them through osmosis! When I was learning about ranges, townships, sections, etc. in a geography class--I was in about the 4th or 5th grade, I think--my teacher asked us to go home and ask our fathers to show us the abstract of the deed to our land to see which township, section, etc. it was on. In Indiana, at that time, when you purchased a piece of land, you got an abstract showing every transaction from the time the government sold it to the first private owner up to the time you bought it. When my father showed me ours, it showed someone by our surname had owned the land a couple of transactions back. I had never heard of this man and I asked, "Who was he?" I was told he was my great- grandfather. A genealogist was immediately born & I have never stopped asking that question! It has been a fasinating hobby, and, if you are just getting started, you are in for a lot of fun! You will find it gives you much pleasure, many challanges, and sometimes some frustrations. You will never be bored again, I promise. I hope I can help you get hooked on it by giving you some of the information I have gathered on the roots of the Rughs and, in return, that you can help fill out the branches. I am eager to know about John's line.
