He is also listed in the 1910 Henderson County census as James age 76, Nancy A. 61. Could this James be the Newton, believed to be the son of Amos, b. abt 1833 and listed in the 1860 Henderson County Census as Newton age 27 b. NC.. Newton is listed in the 1870 Henderson County census as: Newton age 38, Martha age 29, E. L. age 8, Henry P. age 4, and William M age 2. The 1880 Buncombe County Census list Newton age 40, Sarah age 36, Lou age 16, Pink age 14, Willie age 12, Mary age 10, Julia age 8, Geo. age 4, Chas age 6/12. Could Newton's other name be James that he started to use after 1880? Could Newton have married three times between 1860 and 1900--first to a Matilda Jones, second time to a Sarah and third time to a Nancy A. Presley? The above is open for correction and comments.
