I had a look in the Geneanet website (one of the largest french genealogy data base), I have not found Raymond but it really looks like Barut is a name from Annecy, located on the French-Swiss border. There 100s of Barut in Annecy and around it!

Maybe he was born in this region and then moved very young???

Maybe, by finding Juliette's birth record in Limoge(?) we could find some info on her marriage with Raymond as marriages were often recorded in the margin next to the individual's birth record!

As per my previous message, If he was from Marseille or from around Marseille, his military record would be recorded and kept at the archives of Marseille's county which will widen the search easier!
