There many Ringo family members living in Calis, France today. The Ringo Family History Series reflects an incident that occured on August 8, 1558 in Verume, Belgium had a profound affect on the Ringo family. Prior to this date, my 16 times great Grandfather, Jan Ringo, was a farmer in Verume. He and several other farmers were at the Verume Town Hall to complain there were no horses to haul their produce to market. Jan Ringo did all the talking while the other farmers stood by with pitch forks in hand. After giving his speach to the Town Leaders. The Leaders informed the farmers that there was a war in progress and the army had all the horses. This excuse apparently ended the farmer protest. A week later, Jan Ringo was arrested, placed on trial, found guilty and sentenced to death. The death sentence was reviewed by the town leaders. They decided that Jan Ringo had a good reputation in Verume, but he talked too much. Instead of death, they decided to clamp his mouth shutt was a chain link. A cast iron replica was made of Jan Ringo, with the chain link over his mouth. This replica of Jan Ringo with the chain link in his mouth is on display at the Verume Town Hall today. So what happened to the Ringo family after this incident? The Ringo family that came to America moved to Zeeland Holland. Philip Janzen Ringo, born 1615, went to American in 1640 and settled in New Amsterdam. Records seem to indicate that many Ringo family members moved south to Calis, France, where they reside today. For those Ringo family members that are accused of talking too much. It's not your fault. It's in your genes.
