French variations of the surname Cossey?

On my husband's line his grandmother's maiden name is Cossey. Her grandfather took on the last name of his step-father (Joshua Cossey) when he married. My father-in-law found a 1900 census record that showed Joshua's father being born in France. If this spelling of Cossey isn't french what could the variations be.
