The Emma Cossey referred to on the 1880 census had a first husband named William Barter. The family story is that William went to work one morning & didn't come back. Joshua was a boarder & at some point after William left Emma married Joshua. William worked in a mine & something happened. I've been doing indexing & I've noticed that if someone is a boarder it is listed on the census. I don't know if there's a census record that would prove that or not. I don't know if the boarder part has been proven or if it's just part of the story. Emma & William had 8 children. One of those 8 was William b: 30 May 1848. This William is the one that took the Cossey name. William married Precindia Celestia Gibbons 28 Dec 1881 in Summit Co Utah. The only info I have of any children born to Emma & Joshua was a Joseph Cossey b: 28 Nov 1857. Another part of the family story says that Emma was pregnant with Joseph when she married Joshua. As far as Joshua's parents are concerned I just have the names Joseph Cossey & Ann Walter. I would love any more help I can get on this line. My father-in-law found the possible french connection a couple weeks before he was in a bad motorcycle accident so he won't be working on it for awhile. He, his mother Norma Dean Cossey & his sister spent years looking in England records w/o any luck before Norma died. We don't have any experience with French records so any help I can get would be great. Notify Administrator about this message?
