Hope this will help some:

The John France you mentioned is in the:
1880 U. S. Census/Virginia/Henry/Horse Pasture/District 128
June 25, 1880 – p. 59 of 64 pages posted at

       Sydney/B/F/40/Wife/Keeping House/VA/VA/VA
       John/B/M/10/Son/Works on Farm/VA/VA/VA

There are two other France family in Horse Pasture with 10 year olds named John.
Sam (42) and Keziah (39) Farmer –Daughter, Lucinda (14) and John (10). All are born in Virginia as well as parents.
Doctor France (39), Isabella (38) Farmer with children.
Emma (16), William (12), John (10), Matthew (9), Susan (6), Manson (6).

1890 Census was destroyed by fire

       Martha/Daughter/B/F/May 1897/3/VA/VA/VA
       Loulie/Daughter/B/F/May 1899/1/VA/VA/VA
This last name looks more like Sonlie to me.

I believe this to be Keziah, wife of Sam in the 1880 U. S. Census.

Can’t locate the family in the 1930 Census, the latest one available.
