Burton Elsworth France, Michigan 1877-1938

Hi-
B.E. France was my great-grandfather. Trying to clear up another family mystery. Burton was a captain on the Chief Wawatam, a car ferry on the lakes in the 1930's. He lived in Ludington, MI but died on the upper pen in 1938 on his ship. The rumor is he had a second family somewhere on the UP. Anyone have any info on this? Just trying to dispel or prove an old "dirty family secret". Thanks.
