hi everyone, in 1925 my gr aunt mary adeline (addie) lowery swanson listed her mother's maiden name as margaret francois in the iowa census. genealogy sources have her listed as margaret francis born 1848, il, father, joseph b. francis, born n.c. 1800,(married margaret slagel in ky) grandfather, william, born 1771 n.c., (married maria elizabeth bullitschek-or bolejack). the women's lines are known to be bohemian, german, swiss, and from alsace-lorraine (though i am not sure if it was in possession of the french or germans at the time-about 1719). i'm trying to find out if our francis was actually francois. any clues anyone? becky
