Anne, my family of Franklands comes from the Helperby/Huby area of Yorkshire, which is only down the road from Topcliffe. We have managed to trace the family back to about 1780 and then the trail has run a little bit cold, as there was a fire at the church/vicarage which destroyed some of the records. The family were carpenters, wheelwrights and owned a joinery yard of considerable size in Helperby into the 20th century. There is still a direct descendant who is the same generation as my dad stiil living in the village. If you want to email me please do and I will let you have any info that may be of help.
