Angie, I was just reviewing some old postings & spotted yours. Here's info I have on your line.
-John B. Franklin (1/1/1774-1850/60)
John shows up in Floyd Co,KY in the 1810(Age 15-30), 1830(Age 50-60) & 1840(Age 60-70) Censuses. I couldn't find him anywhere in 1820. In 1850 John(76) & wife Pamela(63) are in Johnson Co.--which was formed from Floyd,Morgan & Lawrence Co's in 1843. By 1860, John does not show up but Milly(72) is in Johnson Co with Wilson (52) & Margaret Hammond(46). There's a good possibility that Margaret is the sister of your Martin(b 1811).
Martin first shows up in the 1840 Floyd Co census, age 20-30 with 1 boy 0-5 & 2 girls 5-10 & 10-15. He's in the 1850 Johnson Co census age38 with Eliza age37 & 3 kid--John 15, Louisa M.3 & Susan 1. In 1860 Martin(49) & Eliza(48) have 5 kids--John(25) a schoolteacher, Louisa (12),Martin (8), Manford(3) and Benjamin(2)
My gut feeling is that your John(b 1774) may be a brother of my ggggrandfather Abraham Franklin(b ~1771).
Abraham supposedly married Sarah "Sally" Spears, & sometime 1810-20 went west & was never heard from again. He is in 1810 Russell Co(Present day Scott Co), VA Tax records but missing in the 1820 census when Sarah shows up with 4 boys. What is interesting though is that Sally is in Floyd Co by 1830 with her youngest boy. I think your John was the only other Franklin there in 1830. Since Franklin kin folks tended to stay together, it would be logical for Sarah"Sally" to move close to a brother-in-law ?? after her hubby took off. By 1850 her oldest boy Abel(b1797) & his wife Elizabeth Cynthia Jeffries were in Johnson Co. Many of their descendants were still in & around Ashland in the 1960's
My next search will be in Albemarle Co records to find possible ties. My apologies for rambling on but maybe it might stir up some clues from long lost cousins.
