I am looking for info on a Capt. James Friend. This James Friend is mentioned in two books on Benjamin Franklin.
From "The Devious Dr. Franklin, Colonial Agent Benjamin Franklin's years in England"
"Franklin ended his five-year stay in England, sailing home aboard the "Carolina" commanded by Capt. James Friend, on 1 Nov. 1762 the Carolina docked at Philadelphia".
From "The First Scientific American, Benjamin Franklin And The Pursuit of Genius." by Joyce E. Chaplin.
"As Franklin Summerized in a Note to Deborah in 1765 he received kind letters per (Captain James) Friend per the packet"
The reason I am interested in this Capt. James Friend is that my ggggrandfather was named James Friend. All I know of him is from a biography of one of his grandsons in Goodspeeds "Reminiscent History of the Ozarks" Where it states that James was a native of Scotland and died in 1821 at the age of 110. That he came to America years before with two brothers. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
