Apparently we originated from Smoland, in the Pataholm area. I know my great grandfather was Franz Nielsen; he had (I think!) three boys and two girls, all named variously Fransen, Franzen, or Franson.
If anyone has info I would love to hear it!
Gus Fransen, one of Franz' sons, left Sweden at the age of 15 as a sailor in 1900, ending up in Canada years later, moved out west and settled in Revelstoke, where he met my grandmother. He served with the Corp. of Engineers for the Canadian Royal forces during WW1.
I guess the genealogy bug has bitten...
