I am descended from the 'Fray's of Tisbury, Wilts. My father, uncle and sister have all done a considerable amount of research into Fray in the UK and been in contact with others researching branches of the family. One of these contacts was a George Fray of Birmingham who paid for research to be done on his behalf and was told that he was descended from a John Varoy bn 1731 who anglicised the name to Fray. John Varoy is on an indenture but as unskilled labour is unlikely to have been recruited from the Low Countries as George Fray believed. From our family's research we know that the name existed in numbers in Devon, Wiltshire, and East Sussex in the 1500's. There were also Fray in the Chippenham area that we have not researched properly. I believe either my Uncle Stan or my father Adrian has a bound copy of George Fray's research. My sister Grace has certainly got copies of the Fray line trees that she drew up from George Fray's trees. I have three young boys and am unable to get to record offices. My sister Grace Fray can be contacted at 13 Swallow Close, Milford, Surrey.
