I don’t have anything specifically on a Rev. Ellis but I have the following details, that were sent to me in 1995. My correspondent had extracted the information from a pedigree of the ’Smiths’ of Haulgh Hall. Working from the top down
He had the following children to a ‘Joseph of Ringley’, (I have the parents as Jas. & Jane)
(dates are baptisms not births)
John 1744
Jane 1746
William 1748
Elizabeth 1750
Ellis 1754
Thomas 1756
Robert 1759.

Robert married Betty Blomley, Thomas married Eliz.Vernon and in 1775 Ellis married Hannah Smith (dau of John & Margaret Smith of Haulgh Hall. Bpt 1755 – Died 1825).

Ellis & Hannah lived at Edge Fold Farm, Middle Hulton. Ellis died in 1798 but they had the following issue
John 1775
James 1777
Margaret 1779 (known as Peggy)
Jane 1780
William 1781
Mary 1783
Thomas 1785
Betty 1787
Ann(Hannah?) 1788
Ellis 1790
Martha 1792
Robert 1793

James married Alice Crompton 1801 and they and their family lived at Edge Fold Farm. (James died 1853)
John went to Montego Bay, Jamaica. He died in 1820. He married Mary Selbeck and they had issue
Henry d1831 m ??????
Joseph b1803 d1855 m ??????
Mary m W S Tonge in Jamaica
Jane d1831 m ? Vernon
James b1813 d1821
Ellis d1856 m ? ? no-issue
Elizabeth m ? Shaw
Edward m ? ? 4 children
Margaret b1819 d1822
The above order is based on the order the information was supplied. I don’t have birth dates but as the order isn’t alphabetical or all male followed by all female, it may be correct.

I don’t know how reliable the information is. Ellis is specifically mentioned as dying without issue in 1856, but maybe the death is of a son and he went on to have a second son called Ellis.
Maybe one of the others (Henry, Joseph or Edward) had a son called Ellis.

More research in Jamaica is required to prove a link, but I strongly suspect that John & Mary were the grandparents of Rev. Ellis.

I have also had contact from Alice(1999) daughter of Kingsley Fray of Jamaica, and my father when calling round the phone nos for UK Frays came across a Daisy Fray in Blackburn who also came from Jamaica.
Do you have details of any of the more recent generations?

Grace Beagley (nee Fray)
