Wyatt Cleveland married Temperance Freeman.I am descended from their son Joseph Cleveland(b.1791) who married 1809 Franklin Co., GA Martha "Patsy" Meeks, daughter of Rev. Littleton Meeks and Elizabeth Ivey. They left Franklin Co. and moved to the Madison Co., AL(Mississippi Terr) area before 1820. During that time Huntsville became the capital of the new state of Alabama and William Wyatt Bibb became the first governor. He was thrown from his horse and died after a short time in office, being succeeded by his brother. The capital was soon moved to Cahaba, AL. Shortly, Joseph Cleveland moved his family to Tuscaloosa Co., Al.To be near his cousin, widow of William Wyatt Bibb?We don't know...only that his migration route coincide with theirs.AND the youngest son of Joseph and Patsy was named Joseph Cox Cleveland, b. 1827AL(married Maude Elizabeth Butcher and died 1887 Jackson, AR).
No proof...just a lot of things which fit together, including Temperance's brother James Freeman. It was common at that time to record a will often before the person died, sometimes years before. Are these two James?I had a researcher INSIST that I was wrong. That he had PROOF that the other James was the son of Holman. But his proof consisted of a book written years later "recollecting memories of when he was a child" by an elderly Judge. All well and good.Books give a lot of hints, but no proof was given. In fact, the judge could not remember several of his aunts' names, and his tale was based on heresay from older relatives. And the researcher could not prove that James the pauper was the son of Holman either.
So WHO was the father of Temperance and James?Neither of us had any DEFINITE proof!!So pick any theory you would like...As another Freeman researcher told me,my line is as clear as any other. We all know genealogy changes as new proofs are found.I definitely would like to have this ? area resolved with PROOF.
