An aunt recently sent me documents that show my Great grandfather, William J Freeman, applied for identification as part Choctaw. In this document, he names Rollins J Freeman as his father, He names his grandfather as William J Freeman, and names his Great grandparents as Aaron Freeman and "Alabeth Ball or Freeman".This is taken from an actual transcript of the interview, dated Mar 23, 1903, which I now have in my possession.Needless to say, I was astounded! He claimed Alabeth Ball was half Choctaw.
If you can use this as a source, the document has the following heading:
Department of the Interior
Commission to the Five Civilized Tribes
Muskogee, I.T. March 23, 1903
There is also a number I assume to be a document number - 7239.Also I assume "I.T." means Indian Territory.
