Dennis DNA is Q3 & Matches Freeman's
The Y-DNA testing of my Dennis uncle closely matches only people with the surnames of Freeman that carry the Haplogroup Q3 (37 markers). We are also designated as Q3.
Family stories say that Marion Washington Dennis was b. ca. 1855/56-FL and he was a son of Marion William Dennis and Mary Bell/Mary Bell Ireland.Father was said to have died in the Civil War; Mary (mother) died either before or shortly thereafter.Children were split up and given to other famiiles.Marion Washington also said his father was born in Ireland and DNA tests prove that is not true; he is of NAI line. These people are not found on any census' until 1880-Guadalupe Co. Tx when Marion Washington Dennis is found with a family.
Supposedly he came to Texas with a man by the name of Moony or Moody...to Galveston area.
The assumption now is that my people (Dennis') may have been actually Freeman's in surname, but changed their names for whatever reasons - maybe to keep from taking part in the removals.
There may be another son named Joseph or John...he may carry the Dennis name or he may have another surname, such as Freeman.
Anyone out there have a family of Freeman's that maybe disappeared before or during the Civil War?
I do have a picture of Marion Washington Dennis and his sons Oran Martin and George Washington Dennis.M.W. looks to be of "melungeon" ancestry.Email me at [email protected] if you would like a link to see the pictures to see if there's any family resemblance, etc.
