Fresquez origins

My friend Ben Fresquez was telling me how when he was in the Navy his Hispanic friends would joke him about not having a "real" Spanish/Mexican name.He knows nothing about genealogy so out of curiosity I thought I'd find out a little.Has anyone ever consulted a Spanish surname dictionary for the source of the name?Where in Mexico is the earliest known point of entry or known settler?Has anyone found ancestors in Spain? Thank you.
