From Prussia to Louisiana

My family history started in Prussia in 1645. Later one came to New Orleans, then to Washington Parish, LA . This is the group that I come from. My question is, does anyone know why so many of them are named Johann as a first name? This is an example of one ancestor, Johann Heinrich Christian Fricke. Did Johann mean something special? Thanks Betty Goss Blackburn
