I have been looking for more info on my g g grandfather who came to South Africa in about 1850. I believe that he came from Austria and that he changed the family name from von Schaper to Schaper. Apparently his name was Hermann Ludwig von Schaper. He owned farms here in South Africa and had about 12 children. I was a Schaper before I got married. I am trying to get more info but it is proving quite a challege. I am curious to know where he came from and why he changed his surname.
