Capt Wm H. Friday/Itawamba Co, MS

My gg-grandfather, William H. Friday, of Itawamba Co, MS has "Capt." on his tombstone at the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Cemetery in Tremont. On the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors site, the only two confederate Wm. Fridays are privates at the beginning of the war and privates at the ending. (He applied for a Confederate pension, so I know he didn't fight for the union.) He was born in 1836, so I can't think of another war for which he would have been eligible. Anyone else out there researching this family that might know?
