Friedman(n)s from Germany & Cancer Gene
Posted by: Mary Date: March 12, 2001 at 20:29:20

Have just learned that my family carries the genes that cause a very marked increase in the incidence of breast and ovarian cancer. Men also experience a higher incidence of prostate cancer although not sky-high as for women. These genes, although rare, tend to be found in those of Jewish heritage from Western Europe. Each child has a 50% chance of inheriting the gene if either of their parents carried it. (All of this per my doctor.) Mine likely trace to my Friedman line that immigrated from Germany in the mid 1800s. I'm curious if there are other Friedman(n)s from this region with a similar medical history.
