I hope someone out there can help me with my Friedman family from New Orleans. The first Friedman I can place in New Orleans is Nicholas Friedman. According to census records, he claims to be born in Germany about 1849. He died in New Orleans in 1883. He married Elizabeth Zundel in New Orleans on Jan 20, 1872. I have checked some on-line ship manifests but have not found Nicholas Friedman anywhere. I have found his name recorded as Nikolaus Fredman, Nicolas Freidman, and others. He and Elizabeth had 3 children that I can verify: Henry Friedman born 10 Feb 1873 died 11 July 1926, Catherine Friedman b. 26 Aug 1875 died 1 Dec 1877, and Stephen Friedman born 1 Jun 1878 and died after 1930 (I have found no death record yet) Henry Friedman married Mary M. Hacker and had at least 3 children : Amelia Wilhelmina, Katie, and Nicholas. Stephen Friedman married Elizabeth Friedel and had 7 children: Margaret Clarisse, William, Philip, Lillian S., Teresa E., John and Frederick Francis.
