Kishinev, Moldova - Freedman, Friedman, Fridman, Frydman

I am trying to find information on my line of Freedmans (as we currently spell it).

My Grandfather Saul "Shika" Freedman was born in Kishinev in 1892. He married Rose Charnam, and moved to the US in 1920.

Saul had served as a soldier in the Russian Army during WWI. After Russia relinquished control of the region of Moldavia to the Romanian Government in 1918, he was told he had to join the Romanian Army.

Saul had at least 3 sisters, Raisle, Ida and Shifra. We also think he had at least 2 brothers, but do not know thier names.

The only other clue we have, as to which Freedman Family he came from, was that his father was reputed to own the "largest shoe store in Kishinev".

Sound familiar (no pun intended) to anyone...?
