Philip Friend (1718-1801) was a progenitor of my paternal grandmother. There is a group concerned with his European origin and that believes he came from German-speaking stock. My records indicate that Dorothe Charity Friend, b. 1758, was the 5th child in a family of 8 children. She married a Gaspar Ricketts. Her parents were Philip Friend (1718-1801) and Ann Elizabeth Horshberg (1726-1797). See Richard Friend's article in The Friendship News, Jan. 2008, Vol. 29, No. 91, p. 3, published by the Friend Family Association of America www.friendfamilyassociation.org.
