Samuel L. Friend 1768 & Phillip b 1718
I am still trying to find ancestors of Samuel L. Friend Jr.First known reference Brownsville, PA circa 1790.Known early settler 1808 Perry Township, Hocking(Fairfield) Co. Ohio, along with son William and Reason Friend. Reason is not a son of Samuel:Possibly a brother?
Samuel also bought land in 1795 in Milford Township, Somerset Co., PA, ADJACENT to
land purchased by George Friend b 1752 or 1774, WHO WAS NOT, as far as I can tell, a direct relative! This is a real mystery!
George was the son (or grandson) of Philip Friend b.1768 of Elizabeth Hundred, MD.I have read some indications in this forum based on an Indiana history that this family is English, but I don't think so.I have indications they were German, coming over in 1751 on the ship "Patience".One person has also said Phillip's tombstone was in German, which also supports this theory.Probable name change between 1771 and 1776 from Freund to Friend.I have researched this for many years including the Lester Friend archives. Many thanks to researcher Marsha Fuller of Hagerstown for her help to this point. HELP!!
