Closer inspection of Gussage All Saints registers shows TWO Samuel Fripps born in the seventeenth century. One baptised 18 Jan 1690/91, son of John and Anne, was buried the next day. Another Samuel, parents John and Mary, was baptised 14 Sep 1656 and survived and is the right age for "my" Samuel.

I have details of a Samuel married to Elizabeth Skinner in Stoke Wake on 19 Jan 1677, but Elizabeth was buried 27 Nov 1680. The Samuel who was my ancestor was fathering children in Hilton, Dorset in the 1680's, so if he was the same one he remarried, but I cannot find any info, nor confirmation that he is the right on. Any ideas?
