It is worth noting that both companies mentioned above have sales this month (December 2010). (Actual prices and commercial web sites SHOULD NOT be mentioned on these boards.)

FTDNA is having a sale on 37- and 67-marker Y-chromosome test; the sale price is almost 20% off of the usual price. This sale ends December 31, 2010. (Postage from FTDNA to the UK and other countries outside the USA can be minimal. The Family Finder test is not currently on sale for new customers.)

23andMe IS having a sale price on their autosomal test. There is a restriction, in that a years' subscription to their service is required. But the combined cost is still about a third of their regular price, a huge difference, if you can afford it while on sale. Their sale ends Dec 25, 2010. (Postage from 23andMe to the UK and other countries outside the USA IS significant -they include a prepaid fast delivery service. As an alternative, sometimes you can get a friend in the USA to order it and forward it to you for much less expense.)
