Most of the friths that I have found anything at all about are originally from the UK. Shoreditch, a suburb of London seems to be the most common origin from the information that has been passed on to me. In this country, Virginia is the most common state to search the beginnings of a family line although Abbeville District in South Carolina furnished a lot of Frith Families. My group seems to have started in Virginia then Georgia, Alabama and states west. There is a gap of 100 or 150 years that the records were either not kept or they haven't been located yet. The more researchers that get involved in the search, the better the chances are that the lineage will finally be put into place. Frith is one of the oldest English names around and the statement that it started out as Fritz, etc. is speculation by some amateur genealogists. There is a possibility that the name is a corruption of Firth. Lawrence Frith was born in England and he is probably the foremost researcher on Frith genealogy.Jack Williams
