Fritsch origin in Germany

A few years ago I did a seach by decade of people with the Fritsch surname in Germany. The highest concentration in the 1800s was in the area of Darmstadt. If you look up the phone book in Germany, ther are several pages of Fritschs still in the Darmstadt area, more than the entire remainder of Germany. If only I knew German, I would make some midnight phone calls to find a Fritsch interested in genealogy "across the pond".
