You may want to look for your names in Franklin Co IL beginning approx 1840 or so.
This is about your families, not about mine, but let me tell you why I make that suggestion. I am desc. from Augustine 'Austin' Clayton, Sr. and Catherine 'Caty' Smith of Spartanburg and Greenville Counties in SC, from mid 1700's to ca 1800. They then went to TN for a few years before settling in Allen, Barren, Edmonson & Warren Counties where they and all 10 of their children. Caty probably died ca1830 or so. He died during the winter of 1834/35. The children began to scatter a few years later. My ancestors (Augustine'Austin' Jr. and his wife Phebe Hogg(e)and several of his siblings went to Warren CO IL. Several of the others went to Franklin Co IL ca 1840's. One of those siblings of my ancestor was a brother named Foster Clayton. He married Nancy Sublett (of an old french line - Soblet from the provincce of Navarre). They had a daughter Martha Clayton who married (Eliza) Rotramel. The records say Eliza but I've not been able to determine what his name really was.
Foster had a brother named Thomas who married Rachel Brite/Bright and they also ended up in Franklin County IL. Several of the other names listed in your GENFORUM msg also seem familiar so you may want check. Other of my Clayton & Ray families went to Butler, Bates County, MO - have no idea if it is near your counties or not. Good luck.
Austin Clayton.
ps - I am just trying to be helpful to you but would appreciate knowing someday if any of this 'clicks' with you.
