My great grandfather, Frederick Claus Frohboese, was born August, 1867 ... in Germany. He immigrated during 1880 and married Meta Burmann July 15, 1899 in Rock Island, IL. Meta was born Sept 1878 ... also in Germany. She immigrated during 1896. I have been unable to locate their graves, information about siblings/parents. I will be in the Quad Cities area the first part of April 2003 to do additional research.
Do you know what area of Germany William H. Frohboese and Charlotte emigrated from? Were they married when they arrived? Where did they immigrate to? (My Aunts always argued about why their parents left the German-speaking area of Prussia.)
By June 1900 (Census) he was a saloon keeper and they lived on Green St, Davenport Township, Davenport, IA.
According to family stories, the young family moved to Montana where Meta died while giving birth to Martha. Frederick abandoned them. The following spring, neighbors sent the children back to the Davenport area to live with Meta's brother.
Frederick and Meta had five children,
Hellen (sp?) (b. Feb 1900, d. ??) must have died quite young.
Herbert George (b. 1903, d. 1993) married Norma Moeller.
Irma D. (b. 1906, d. 1997) never married.
Frederick C. "Fritz" (b. 1909, d. 1999) married Dorothy Schreck.
Martha E. H. (b. 1913, d. 1996) never married.
