Lil[l]ian Froman, Popular Singer
In the 1950's actress Susan Hayward portrayed Lillian Froman, a popular singer of the 1930's and 40's. As I recall, Lillian had an up and down battle with the bottle (perhaps brought on by bad habits of [one of] her husband[s] ?). She was in a plane crash - near Lisbon, Portugal, I think - and survived, although she was confined for a while to a wheelchair, and had to learn to walk again while on crutches. This was all treated in a rather melodramatic way in the movie (as I recall, her first attempt at a comeback on crutches in the movie featured a very young Robert Wagner in a small first [?] role). I believe Hayward received an Oscar nomination for this role - not sure if she received it or not.
Does anyone posting here know more about the singer Lilian Froman ? Was this her real surname ? How did her family fit into the various lines who settled in America ?
