In Reply to: Another Frommeyer b. Penn d. OH by Vicky (FROMEYER) Foster of 13

Following is some information I have in my research. I am not sure if they are related.

--Philomine Kleine (Aunt Minnie Fromeyer) (b circa 1843)
Philomine married William H. Fromeyer circa 1864 (1900 census), possibly in St. Francis de Sales prior to construction of the present church was started in 1876.
They had 12 (?) children (family record—Mary Detmer Reiss thought there were 11). Based upon this family information, this author was able locate 7 children through the census data and 5 others through the Calvary Cemetery data (courtesy of Marilyn Detmer, Email 8 October 2004, to this author) who died prior to being recorded during a census year. Children that Mary (Detmer) Reiss remember included:
                                   --Walter Fromeyer (became a priest)
--Joseph Fromeyer (maybe Josephine? As noted in 1880 census?) married; had one child; adopted one child and had a number of children)
--One Nun
--One daughter who married a Nurre (and lived in Atlantic City)
--One Son (went to Georgetown)
--One Son (went to Georgetown)
(1890-91 City directory shows a V.A. Frommeyer with his dad)

Note: Based upon census data, William and Minie had 7 kids:
       Aloydious               1866
       Josephine*               1868
       Annie (Hanna?) L.        1872 AUG
       Fredrich F.              1873 JULY
       Mary                     1875 (? Month)
       Minnie B.              1879 JULY
       Walter                     1880 OCT
* According to Judith (KLEINE descendant) Gonzales, Josephine married a LUERS and she died on 17 May 1926, based upon a Funeral (Church) card, see above.

1880 Census shows the following with Joseph Kleine as Head of Household married to Agnes (nee Dickhaus) Kleine, family living on Kleine Street:
--Joseph Kleine, age 66 (b circa 1814, Oldenburg, as was parents) Retired
--Agnes, wife, age 66 (b circa 1814, Oldenburg, as was parents)
--Annie Fromeyer (daughter to Joseph), b 1843, OH, age 37
--William H. Fromeyer, Son-in-law, b 1838, age 42, Cloth House

--Mary Fromeyer, Granddaughter, b 1876, OH, age 4
--*****Amalie Frommeyer, b7 July 1878 (not noted in census, could she be “Minnie”?)
--Minnie Fromeyer,****** Granddaughter, b 1879, OH, age 10 months
……….

??Note: Calvary Cemetery shows two deaths during 1866 which appear to be children of Annie (nee Kleine) and William H. Frommeyer based upon their burial in the Frommeyer Plot H-50:
--Mary Catherine Frommeyer, died age 7 months, 30 November 1866
--M.A.J. Frommeyer, died age 11 days, 7 December 1866
* Note: There is a J. Joseph Frommeyer, born last day of February 1870, dying at age 2 days on 2 March 1870 in the Frommeyer Plot H-50 based upon Calvary Cemetery records, Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH
**Note: There is an Anna L Frommeyer, born circa 1866, dying at age 104 in Calvary Cemetery records in the H-50 (Frommeyer Plot), died on 26 October 1971, Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH.
***Note: Calvary Cemetery Records show a Fred F. Frommeyer, age 46, born 1866 dying on 7 March 1919 (Frommeyer Plot H-50), Cincinnati, Hamilton Co. OH

1900 Census shows the following (with Head of Household being Joseph Kleine) Philomine married to William Fromeyer:
--Joseph Kleine shown as Head of Household, age 86, born MAR 1814, widower, Retired Merchant. He was born in Germany as was his parents. They were living on Cleinview Avenue.
--William H. Fromeyer, Son-in-law, born FEB 1835, Ohio (Parents from Germany), age 65, married 36 year (means he married 1864), retired Clothier.
--Minnie Fromeyer, Daughter (to Joseph, wife to William), b JUNE 1844, age 56
--Fred Fromeyer, Grandson, b JULY 1873, age 26, Traveling Salesman
--Hanna Fromeyer,* Granddaughter, b AUG 1872, age 27
--Mary Fromeyer, Granddaughter, b ?month 1875, age 24
--**Minnie Fromeyer, Granddaughter, b JULY 1879, age 20
--Walter Fromeyer, Grandson, b OCT 1880, age 19, Bookkeeper
***--(not in census) Gerhardt, b circa 1896; died age 12 hrs, 11 January 1896
…….

* Note: There is an Annie noted b 1872 in the 1880 census—assuming the same person.
**Note: Calvary Cemetery records show Minnie Frommeyer born 1880, dying at age 53, on 26 March 1934 (Frommeyer Plot H-50), Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH
***Note: Calvary Cemetery records show Gerhardt Frommeyer born circa 1896, dying at 12 hours, 11 January 1896, (Frommeyer Plot H-50), Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH. If this was William’s and Minnie’s son, Minnie would have been age 52 at time of birth. This seems unlikely. Perhaps Gerhardt was a nephew or maybe grandson.?

1910 Census shows William Frommeyer as Head of Household (note that father-in-law Joseph Kleine and mother-in-law, Agnes [nee Dickhaus or Dyckhues] Kleine died 1903 and 1899, respectively. Also note that William’s wife, Philomina [nee Kline or Kleine] died also in 1904. Therefore, this appears a correct enumeration for OUR Frommeyer and was living in the 1st Ward in Cincinnati):
--William Frommeyer, Head of Household, age 73 widower (b circa 1837, Ohio, parents from Germany, Hanover)
--Anna L. Frommeyer, daughter, age 37 (b circa 1873, OH)
--Fred F. Frommeyer, son, age 36 (b circa 1874, OH) Traveling Salesman
--Minnie B. Frommeyer, daughter, age 30 (b circa 1880, OH)

1920 Census shows William Frommeyer’s daughter, Josephine married (prior to 1890) to Henry Leurs
Henry Leurs, 3443 Mooney Avenue (about 1/4th mile east of Madison Road, NE of Woodburn, about 300 feet north of Observation Avenue [east of Cincy County Club], Ward 2, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, Enumeration District 23, Sheet 5B, 5 January 1920
Henry Leurs, Head of Household, owns home free, male, white, age 69, born about 1851 in Ohio, parents in Germany, Treasurer, Toolmaker Co.
--Josephine (nee Frommeyer) Leurs, wife, age 50, born about 1870 in Ohio, parents same, none occupation
--Clifford Leurs, son, age 30, born about 1890 in Ohio, VP Machine Tool Co.
--John Wilton Leurs, son, age 28, born about 1892, in Ohio, Toolmaker, Auto Business

--Richard Leurs, son, age 20, born about 1900 in Ohio, Tool Inspector, Tool Co.
--Ruth Leurs, daughter, age 18, born about 1902 in Ohio, occupation none
--Queenie (?) Leurs, daughter, age 9, born about 1911 in Ohio.

1930 Census shows a Walter B. Frommeyer Family in Cincinnati (Our Walter Frommeyer would have been age 50, which matches this enumeration. However, family information by Mary [nee Detmer] Reiss indicated that OUR Walter was supposed to be a priest. So, it is not clear if there was confusion or priesthood linked to the wrong person. The census enumeration shows the family in Ward 2, Block No. 255, Precinct F, living on Mooney Avenue. William and Alma married circa 1900. Walther’s mother-in-law and brother-in-law were also living with them):
--William B. Frommeyer, Head of Household, owning home with value of $20,000 and radio, age 50 (b circa 1880, OH, parent also born in OH), he married at age 30 (circa 1900), Salesman in Twines and Textiles
--Alma D. Frommeyer, wife, age 36 (b circa 1894, Kentucky, Father born in Kentucky, mother in Ohio)
--Mary V. Frommeyer, daughter, age 16 (b circa 1914, OH)
--Walter V. Frommeyer, son, age 14 (b circa 1916, OH)
--James Frommeyer, son, age 11 (b circa 1919, OH)
--John H. Frommeyer, son, age 7 (b circa 1923, OH)
--Margaret C. Reilly, mother-in-law, age 62 (b circa 1868, OH, parents born in Ireland), widow
--James F. Donahue, brother-in-law, age 40 (b circa 1890, Kentucky, Father born in Kentucky, mother in Ohio), none.

Notes about other Frommeyer Records—such as those Frommeyer in Calvary Cemetery. Our Frommeyer Grave Plot in Calvary Cemetery (Cincinnati, Hamilon Co., OH) is H-50. There were seven (7) other Frommeyers in PLOT C-51, H-51 and K-7 that might be related, but not sure in what relationship:
C-51:       NAME                     BIRTH              DEATH
       Francis G. Frommeyer 36, b 1835 d 1 Feb 1876
       Fred Frommeyer 2 days, b 1873, d 16 Nov 1873
H-51:
Agnes Frommeyer, age 93, b 1840, d 26 Feb 1933
       Arthur Frommeyer, 10 mnth, b May 1901, d 2 March 1902
       E. G. Frommeyer, 7 mnth, b Sept 1901, d 15 April 1902
K-7       Elizabeth L. Frommeyer 85, b 1905, d 21 Sept 1989
       Fred A. Frommeyer adult, b ? , d 10 Nov 1961
There was a Frederick Frommeyer in the 1930 Census living on Hackberry Street in the East Walnut Hills District, showing born in New York (with parents in Ohio), circa 1904, age 26. His wife was Elizabeth, age 26. The couple had been married for about 3-1/2 years. He was a tool maker in medical field.

I am also looking for LEURS family in Cincy. Philomine and William L. Frommeyer's daughter, Josephine married a Henry Leurs and as of 1920 shows they married about 1890 and had 6 children: Clifford (b about 1890), John Wilton (b about 1892), Leslie May (b about 1898), Richard (b about 1900), Ruth (b about 1902) and Queenie (?) (b about 1911), all born in Cincinnati. Henry Leurs was born in Ohio (apparently) and his parents in Germany. These families (Frommeyer, KLeine) lived in the Woodburn and/or Walnut Hills/East Walnut Hills area of Cincy and most belonged to the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church located at the corner of Madison/MLK and Woodburn AVe.
