According to the 1900 Van Zandt Co. census, she was the daughter of Sam H. Fugate, b. March 1860 TX and his wife Frances N., b. Apr 1861.Their family consisted of:Lee H., son, b. Apr 1885; MARY F., dau, b. Apr 1882; Kearby H., son, b. May 1889; Joe Ann, dau, b. Sept 1891;_?_ Otto, son, b. Nov 1896.
This Sam H. married Francis Newton about 1878.In the 1880 census they had one child, an infant named William Thomas, b. 1879/80.
Sam H. was the son of William Fugate and Mary J. ___.She was still living in 1900 and the census states that she was born Oct. 1839 in KY.
In 1880 Van Zandt Co., the family listing is:
Wm. Fugate, 45, b. VA
Mary J., 43, TN
Emma, 28
Mary A., 13
Reuben R., 11
Isa M., 9
Texanna, 7
Joanna, 7 (twins)
McD., 5 son
Charlie, 2
On the same page:
S.H. Fugate, 21
Francis, 17
Wm. Thos, 8 mo
J.W., 18, brother
William was one of the sons of Randolph Fugate, b. 1801 Wythe Co. VA and his wife Elizabeth Odle, b. 1803 Wythe Co. Both died in MississippiCo. MO in 1879.Their children are all listed in a biography of their son James in a county history (Goodspeed's History of Southeastern Missouri)
I published evidence that Randolph must have been the son of Francis Fugate, b. 1775/6 and his wife Caledonia of Wythe & Pulaski Cos VA.Francis proven by court records to be the son of "old" Randolph Fugate (d.1814) of Wythe Co. and his wife Charity. That Randolph was son of Randolph and Maryan (Deelwood), and Randolph Sr was son of Josias who d. 1757 in King George Co. VA.I think other descendants of Randolph and Charity have put their lines on the Web.
I have many records on this line - for more information, e-mail me: [email protected]
