The internet is truly a marvelous instrument, allowing each and every one of us access to millions of documents right in our homes on our computer screens. Previously we had to travel to court houses, libraries, document storage warehouses and depots all across the United States and the world for that matter. And every day now new documents are added for us to peruse and enjoy.
Unfortunately there is a downside to this massive data release as some carelessly, mistakenly or sloppily report connections that are just not proven. Case in point-if you type "josias fugate" on your search engine you will learn that his father is Peter Fugate; James Fugate husband of Em Lambe; James Fugate son of Em Lambe; or others even, despite the fact that there is "no" document yet discover that proves who Josias' father is.
While this is disheartening, I believe that the building DNA database will solve some of the gaps and connections and I'm sure there are many more documents to be discovered, photos to be found and family bibles yet to be reported.
Meanwhile as I search for information and correct entries for the early Fugates, I've been re-reading Mary Fugate's Fugate Family Newsletters. In Volume XIII May 1991, No. 1, page 15 she reported that Michael Pollack editor of Frederick Findings sent her "Fugate" references found in King George County Court Order Books, which reference Josias Fugate, Francis Martin, John Fugate, Christian and William Thrailkill (Fugate neighbors in Culpeper and Fauquier Counties)and others. Those references provide hints, clues and connections to Josias, the linchpin of the 1700's Fugate.

March, 1765____Fugate on list to appraise the estate of Jane C___man. (too faded to read) book 3 page 1182
Some of the records that Michael Pollack provided were too faded to read. Hopefully better copies will give us more useful information and maybe within the 1000's of pages in the King George Books there are others entries about neighbors, friends, relatives that could fill some gaps that we all have.
These records do hint that John Fugate (Possibly) Peter's son, is related to Josias'; there is further verification of Francis Martin's closeness to Josias; and there are neighbors here in King George who all turn up in Frederick/Culpeper/Fauquier counties later in the 1700's, thanks once again to Mary Fugate's insistence on accuracy.
