The place of David's birth is fuzzy. He was either born in Coal Creek TN where his family lived. Or he was born in NC as one census record says. We know that John Humphreys and Susan Epperson were his parents (but we can't figure out who Susan's parents were. If you know, I'd love to hear from you).

David was the brother of Solomon and Henson, the half-brother of John (who died unmarried in the 1830s and David was the executor of his estate)--who all moved to Indiana at the same time to claim land bounties from the War of 1812 given to the older brothers.

David was a member of Coal Creek Church in TN, then Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church in Manhattan, Putnam Co, IN. There's a site that says that the Primitive Baptist churches are preparing their records for the internet. I can never get my post into their guestbook, but I can't wait until the records come out.

As already written, David and Rebecca did move to Alton, IL and were members of the Upper Alton Baptist Church. He died from an infected tooth. Rebecca never remarried.

I'm hoping someone has records on Susan Epperson. We're desperately trying to figure out who her parents were. I've also come across a post somewhere that John (the father) was a soldier for five years during the Revolutionary war. But we've never found the records to substantiate that.

If you have any background on John and Susan, I'd sure to hear from you. Thanks so much and I hope this helps.
