FUNDERBURK-CHESTER-REYNOLDS Lanc Co SC
Posted by: Cynthia Nason (ID *****7460) Date: August 26, 2003 at 07:28:32
  of 954

The John & Elizabeth REYNOLDS family of Harris Co, GA, is definitely tied to the CHESTER family from Lancaster Co, SC, and the CHESTERs appear to be tied to the FUNDEBURKs. Ezekiel CHESTER in his will in Tallapoosa Co, AL, 1855, mentions his two stepchildren, Jacob CHESTER and Elizabeth REYNOLDS. Other heirs were children David CHESTER, Sarah KNIGHT, & Johnathan CHESTER. Ezekiel is in the 1850 Tallapoosa Co, AL census, aged 84.

Marriage, Death, & Estate Notices From the Lancaster Ledger SCMAR p105
George M. FUNDERBURK has pplied [sic] for admn. on the estate of Ezekiel CHESTER, late of Tallapoosa Co, AL. 2 Mar 1858. (3 Mar 1858).

Elizabeth who married John REYNOLDS of Harris Co, GA, seems to be the same Elizabeth REYNOLDS mentioned in the will. In the 1860 census of Harris Co, GA, Ezekiel’s son David, her stepbrother, is living with her:

1860 Harris Co, GA census p571:
#464 Elizabeth REYNOLDS 69F Farmer NC
David CHESTER 65M NC

The ancestry of John REYNOLDS (born 2 Mar 1782 SC, died about 1848, Harris Co, GA ) is unknown. He could be related to the REYNOLDS family living near Ezekiel CHESTER and the FUNDERBURKs on Wildcat or Wild Cat Creek in Lancaster Co, SC.

William (& Nancy?) REYNOLDS as well as a James REYNOLDS lived on Wild Cat Creek, which is in the eastern part of Lancaster Co, not far from the county line with Chesterfield Co—where Lynches River forms the border. Wild Cat Creek is a branch of Lynches River. This area is also near the SC-NC border.
