J.J. or Joshua Funderburk was born around 1822. At age 40 he was among the first confederate volunteers to leave Pickens County. He serve with the army of Northern Virgina for the entire war. I have read a letter he sent home to the McShans explaining how their two sons were killed during the Pennisula Campaign in 1862. I could do some research and find the names of all his children, but off the top of my head I only know My great great grandmother Elizza Jennie born 1847 married Francis Marion Vail in 1863.
