The Funkhousers of Washington County, Arkansas, originated in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia but went early to southwestern Virginia and then North Carolina and Tennessee before moving on to Arkansas in the 1820s. In North Carolina they were in Buncombe County and in Tennessee they were in in Sullivan County.
