It gets more interesting than that- while James (a different Funkhouser line) gave you your direct paternal line back to Johannes (John Sr)you have several other lines of descent from John Funkhouser Sr.
Your great-grandmother, Sadie Glaize, wife of Frank Funkhouser, was born in 1887, daughter of George W. Glaize and Rebecca M. Funkhouser.
George W. Glaize was born in 1841, son of John H. Glaize and Barbara Rosenberger. Barbara Rosenberger was born in 1811, daughter of Henry Rosenberger and Mary Funkhouser, Mary Funkhouser was the oldest daughter of John Funkhouser Jr.
Rebecca M. Funkhouser, wife of George W. Glaize was born in 1845, daughter of David Funkhouser and Rebecca Pitman. David was born in 1809, son of Abraham Funkhouser Jr and wife, Catherine Coffman. Abraham Jr. was son of Abraham Sr. and Magdalena. Abraham Sr. was second son of John Funkhouser Sr.
Rebecca Pitman, wife of David Funkhouser was the daughter of Emanuel Pitman and Esther Funkhouser. Esther was b. in 1777, daughter of Christian Funkhouser and Barbara Layman.
Your direct Funkhouser lines come down from Christian but as you can see you have two lines of descent from Christian, and one from his brother John Jr. and one from his brother Abraham. Abraham, John and Christian all lived on Tumbling Run just west of Fishers Hill in Shenandoah County, VA.
In spite of many attempts we have still not been able to determine exactly who the parents of John Funkhouser Sr (Johannes Fankhauser) were.
I knew your great aunt Romaine Funkhouser Painter and I live here in Grottoes VA, where a sister of Frank Funkhouser who married a man named Wilberger lived. They had a big family and the last daughter of this family died last week, leaving only one brother, Benton Wilberger still living.
