I have a geanology that states that Johannes(John) Fankhauser Sr., settled on a farm around 1740 "at the headquarters of Tumbling Run, then Funks Hill Run near Fishers Hill 4 miles west of Strasburg, Shandoah Cty, Va. Records show John Funkhouser(name americanized) of Fredericks Cty. owned 825 acres of land. On 1-9-1752 he deeded to his 6th child, Christopher Funkhouser, Sr. 290 cares of land, two miles from homestead (presently near Us Hwy 11, (as of 1970 when this geanology was done by Samuel O. Funkhouser, 5823 No. Kent Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53217)at Tumbling Run, Shanandoah Cty., VA Will of Johannes Fankhauser (aka John Funkhouser, Sr.) was probated on April 3, 1765 have a copy of that will in long hand, German and English. The will was written in 1760. This paper also states the earliest record you have, but no copy of it. There is also a list of four other transactions by his son John, Jr. to his brothers, Abraham and David. There is also a record of the will of Abraham Funkhouser dated April 11, 1796. All of these transactions are listed in Deed Book B, E,C, dated Aug. 26, 1784. The will is listed in the Will Book E, pg.21. Johannes and his wife had five sons and two daughters. They were John Jr., Abraham, Christian, David, Jacob, Mary, and Rebecca. There was also a suggestion of two more sons, Isaac and George, but no record exists. Ihave all the information from Johannes (mostly after he came to America, and his children up till about at least 1980. Oops, sorry Daniel, I just saw that your book was the source of the records of the transactions. Okay, it says on the paper that our records differ. Ours say John Jr,. had inherited the land and was the one who later sold some of it to his brothers as Johannes wife's name is listed as "Toby" or something similar in the will and his son John's wife's name is listed as Barbara. I hope to hear from you as we don't know anything about his life in Philadelphia after he immigrated. Sorry if this isn't anything new to anyone, its kind of difficult to know where to start or who needs what info.
