In 2000, I purchased the "Funkhouser Farm" located at 27812 Old Valley Pike, Toms Brook, VA. Four generations of Funkhousers owned this farm: Christian & Eva, Noah & Catherine, Madison & Emma and Frank & Sadie. The house on the farm was used by both Union (Nathaniel Banks) and Confederate Generals (Jubal Early)during the Civil War. Further, portions of the battles of Fisher's Hill & Toms Brook occurred on the farm. In an effort to protect this history, I placed the farm in a permanent easement in 2004. Further, this year I submitted a preliminary application to the VA Dept. of Historic Resources for recognition. This application was approved. However, the final application process is very onerous and so I'm going to need all the help I can get. I'm interested in any information that might be available on the four Funkhouser families who owned the farm (that is in addition to information already placed on the Funkhouser website). Further, I'm particularly interested in getting information regarding any living descendents of Frank & Sadie Funkhouser so that I might interview them. Also, if anyone has a copy of the 1862 Civil War photo of the Funkhouser house or any other Civil War photos of the house or farm, I would love to scan them. I will come to you to scan them. Finally, if anyone would like a copy of the preliminary application I submitted to the VA Dept. of Historic Resources, I would be glad to send it as an email attachment or forward it by mail.
