Very interesting stuff here. I was born in New York as was my father, James T. Furey. My Father was born in Brooklyn and our Grandmother used to tell of our coming to this country from Ireland. It seems there was a grandfather Furey in the civil war where he in the Pennsylvania Guard. He was a surgeon and the implements of his trade are now held at the Smithsonian Institute. They are occassionally displayed. Not sure of the whole story here but it is said that my older (oldest male Furey in our generation) Brother's first son (oldest male Furey in his generation) now has claim on the artefacts should he care to withdraw them from the Institute. I wonder if the Institute has an e-mail address and if there is some way of digging up information on this?
