Furey / Fury /(All variants) DNA Project

A Furey DNA Surname Project has been started with Family Tree DNA.com. Participants are male Fureys /Furys (and variants). The test utilized for the project is a Y-DNA test. As you may know, the Y Chromosome is passed from father to son, so the Y-DNA tracks the surname. Females do not have a Y Chromosome, so they cannot take the test.

The objectives of the project are to:

1. To determine how many closely related groups bear the Furey /Fury / (All variants) surname.
2. To determine the most likely localities of origin for these groups.
3. To help provide missing links in the genealogy of participants in the study.
4. To help establish connections for closely related families.

If you are a male Furey, you are invited to participate. You can also participate, if you are not a male Furey, but are a Furey descendent and can obtain a sample from a related male Furey. This project has been initiated by and is administered by Francis X Edwards Furey, descendent of Francis X. Furey - DNA project website http://www.fureydna.com . As an example, Francisí mother was a Furey but a male Furey cousin donated the sample that enabled him to participate and also I have returned my 37 marker test which would suffice for my brothers and male cousins.

There is an online video at this link http://www.familytreedna.com/videoaudio.html that explains the process in more detail.

Also, we would be grateful, if you would pass this message on to other Furey's, as wide participation will lead to a successful project.
