The Biography of Sax Rohmer may give more information about his parents.

Ash, Cay Van and Elizabeth Sax Rohmer. Master of Villainy: A Biography of Sax Rohmer. Edited, with Foreword, Notes and Bibliography by R. E. Briney, ed. Bowling Green, Ohio: Bowling Green University Popular Press, 1972; London: Tom Stacey, 1972. 312 pages.

Page 13.

Both of Sax’s parents were Irish. William Ward was the son of Timothy Ward, a stone mason and part-time schoolmaster from Wicklow. Margaret Mary Furey was the daughter of Martin Francis Furey, a merchant from Athlone. Both families had left Ireland and settled in Birmingham, in the English Midlands, where William and Margaret met and in June of 1879, became man and wife. Although both families were Catholic, the couple were married in a civil ceremony at the Birmingham Register Office. William Ward was at that time an office clerk, and not highly paid. He and his bride established a modest household at 28 Rann Street in the Ladywood district, near the center of the city. It was here, on February 15, 1883, that Arthur Henry Ward – the future Sax Rohmer - was born.

Uncertain of page numbers.

Arthur Henry Ward was their only child.

Sax and Elizabeth were married on 1/14/1909 at the Lambeth Register Office.

He died on 6/1/1959 at the University College Hospital.
