Gabriel Fusiler de la Claire was the Great-Great-Grandfather of my Grandmother Corinne Braughn. Born in 1878 as the eigth child in her family, Grandmother Corinne grew up in New Orleans. She and her older sister both became Mardi Gras Queens; she Queen of Mithras in 1899. Her gown is on display at the Mardi Gras Museum in Baton Rouge. She left a family history that states one of Helena Elisabeth Soileau’s and Gabriel Fuselier de la Claire’s daughters, Euphemie, married Phillip Zerban, of a Philadelphia family. Their one child Eugenie married Edouard Simon (“Simone”), later my Grandmother Corinne's father, in New Orleans. Edouard Simon became Judge of the Supreme Court of Louisiana. His parents’ origin was Tournai, Belgium. Grandmother Corinne subsequently married Garland Sexton of Wytheville, Va., where her family had long summered away from the heat of New Orleans and where in fact she was born, and Wytheville became her eventual home.
